The question, asked badly
"NMN or NR?" is the question the market pushes you toward, because it assumes one of them wins. In human data the answer is duller and more useful: they are near-twins, and the difference between them is far smaller than the difference between "raises NAD⁺" and "makes you age better".

Clinical endpoints do not. What is missing — for both — is the same thing: convincing effects on outcomes that actually matter (physical function, disease incidence, longevity) rather than on the NAD⁺ number itself.
The most-cited NMN trial (PMID 38789831) enrolled 25 older men for 12 weeks: NAD⁺ rose, gait speed improved in a subgroup. Tiny sample, surrogate outcome, short follow-up. On the NR side, safety and bioavailability studies (PMID 29211728) confirm the NAD⁺ rise and good tolerability, but with the same limitation: the endpoint is the biomarker, not health.
The head-to-head that doesn't exist
The weak point of the whole debate is that adequately-sized head-to-head comparisons are missing. There is no large trial randomising people to NMN or NR and measuring who ends up better off. Absent that, any claim that "NMN is superior" or "NR is the right form" is mechanistic argument, not evidence.
